Heat pump installation by Budget Electrical

Every job in your home, done properly

Your home's electrical system is the one trade where “she'll be right” isn't an option - it's regulated for good reason, and the difference between a proper job and a cheap one usually only shows up at the worst moment.

Our residential team works across Auckland and Palmerston North doing the everyday jobs brilliantly and the big jobs by the book.

What we do around your home

Small jobs get the same care as big ones - that's how we end up doing the big ones later.

Repairs & small jobs

Dead outlets, broken switches, tripping circuits, buzzing fittings, hot-water cylinder elements and thermostats.

Safety & capacity upgrades

Switchboard upgrades and RCD protection, rewiring for older homes, earthing corrections, surge protection.

Installations

Lighting and LED downlights, power points, ovens and cooktops, heated towel rails, bathroom fans, outdoor power, spa and pool connections, EV chargers.

Compliance & peace of mind

Smoke alarms to the current rules, electrical inspections for pre-purchase, insurance or landlord needs - with a Certificate of Compliance or Electrical Safety Certificate issued for all prescribed work, as the law requires.

The electrification jobs

EV charger circuits, induction cooktop upgrades, heat pump wiring and solar-ready boards. Modern homes pull far more power than their 1980s switchboards were built for; we'll tell you honestly whether yours is ready. (Adding a heat pump? We install those too.)

Fault finding

Something tripping, flickering or smelling wrong? Our fault-finding process diagnoses it methodically and fixes it once.

What it costs (so you're not guessing)

Straightforward jobs are charged by time with a clear call-out fee and hourly rate, confirmed upfront when you book (Auckland electricians typically run $90–$150/hr – ask us where we sit and we’ll tell you straight). Bigger jobs – switchboards, rewires, renovations – get a fixed written quote before any work starts. No surprise invoices, ever; if we find something unexpected mid-job, work pauses until you’ve approved the change.

Why homeowners keep our number

Registered, licensed electricians on every job (check anyone who touches your wiring on the EWRB register — we’ll happily show you ours). Workmanship guaranteed for 12 months. We turn up when we said, wear shoe covers without being asked, vacuum the drill dust, and explain what we did in plain English.

Both cities, local teams: Auckland-wide and across Palmerston North, Feilding and the Manawatū. Read our reviews on Google.

FAQs

How much does an electrician cost in NZ?

Most electricians charge $90–$150 per hour plus a call-out fee and parts. We confirm our rate upfront when you book; larger jobs are fixed-quoted so the number can't move.

Do I get a certificate after electrical work?

Yes - for prescribed electrical work you must receive a Certificate of Compliance and/or Electrical Safety Certificate. We issue yours before we leave; keep it for insurance and resale.

Can I do my own electrical work?

The law allows homeowners a narrow list of low-risk DIY on their own home, but most wiring work is prescribed and must be done by a licensed electrician - and uncertified work can void insurance. When in doubt, it's a ten-minute phone call.

Do you do small jobs?

Genuinely, yes. One power point is a real booking, not an annoyance.

Do you service rental properties?

Yes - smoke alarm compliance, repairs, safety checks and portfolio maintenance for landlords in both cities.
