Heat Pump Repairs - Fast Diagnosis, All Brands
Not heating? Blowing cold? Leaking down the wall? Flashing lights? We diagnose on the first visit and carry the common parts to fix most faults on the spot.

No-heat calls jump the queue
A dead heat pump in July isn't a maintenance item, it's an emergency - so we prioritise no-heat calls, and in winter we hold same-week (often next-day) slots for them across Auckland and Palmerston North.
Our crews combine refrigeration technicians and registered electricians, so both the refrigerant side and the electrical side are diagnosed - and certified - in the same visit.
Call 0800 519 5500 and say “no heat” and we'll bump you up the queue.

What's it doing? Start here.
Not heating / blowing cold air on heat mode
Check the remote is on HEAT (sun symbol) not FAN or AUTO - you'd be surprised. Still cold? Likely causes range from a failed sensor or reversing valve to low refrigerant from a slow leak. Air that feels cool while the unit ramps up, or a pause with a blinking light on frosty mornings, can be a normal defrost cycle - but “cold air all day” is a fault.
Leaking water inside
Nine times out of ten it's a blocked condensate drain - a quick fix that shouldn't wait, because that water is finding its way into your wall lining.
Ice on the outdoor unit that never clears
Some frost that self-clears is normal; a unit encased in ice has a defrost fault or refrigerant issue. Turn it off and call - running it iced can damage the compressor.
Error code / flashing lights
Every brand encodes faults in the blinks or display. Tell us the brand, model and code when you book - often we can identify the fault and arrive with the exact part.
Weird noises
Grinding or screeching suggests fan-motor bearings; gurgling can be refrigerant; loud buzzing at the outdoor unit may be electrical. Rattles are often just a loose cover - we'll tell you honestly if it's a two-minute fix.
Tripping the power / dead
Electrical fault - stop resetting the breaker and get it looked at. Our repair techs include registered electricians, so the electrical side is diagnosed and certified in the same visit.
Musty smell but otherwise fine?
That's not a repair, it's mould - you want a deep-clean service, which is cheaper.
How our repair call-out works
You approve the price first, always.
Book with symptoms
Brand, model, what it's doing, any error code - this lets us pre-load likely parts.
Diagnostic visit - $149 incl. GST
Covers travel and up to the first hour of fault-finding on any brand: Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Gree, Haier, Midea and more.
Fixed quote before any repair
Most common faults - drains, sensors, capacitors, fan motors, remotes, control boards - are fixed same visit from van stock.
Repair, test, guarantee
Full heating/cooling run test, and our workmanship guarantee on the repair.
Under warranty? If your unit is within its 5–6 year manufacturer's warranty, the repair may cost you nothing. We're authorised warranty agents for the major brands - we'll check your serial number and handle the claim rather than charging you for covered work.
Repair or replace? Our honest rule of thumb
We're installers as well as repairers, which cuts both ways - we could always sell you a new unit, so here's the actual test we use:
Under ~8 years old
Repair it. Almost always the right call, and possibly free under warranty.
8–12 years
Repair if the fix is under roughly a third of replacement cost; think hard if it's a major component.
12+ years, major failure
With a compressor, coil or major refrigerant failure, put the money toward a new unit - R22-era units can no longer be economically regassed anyway.
If replacement wins
We'll say so, show the maths, and can often install the new unit within days using your existing electrical supply.
Modern heat pumps are meaningfully more efficient, so a replacement partly pays for itself in power savings.
Auckland: techs across the city
North Shore, West, Central, East and South - so a no-heat call in Henderson isn't waiting on a van from Albany.
Palmerston North & Manawatū
Local techs covering Palmy, Feilding, Ashhurst, Longburn and out to Levin and Dannevirke - with winter frost season treated as exactly the emergency it is.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my heat pump not heating?
The most common causes: wrong mode selected, clogged filters strangling airflow, a normal defrost cycle being mistaken for a fault, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failed sensor/valve. Check mode and filters first; if it's still cold, book a diagnosis.
Why is my heat pump blowing cold air in heat mode?
Brief cool air during start-up and defrost is normal. Continuous cold air usually points to a refrigerant or reversing-valve fault - a technician job.
How much does heat pump repair cost in NZ?
Our diagnostic visit is $149 including the first hour. Common repairs (drains, sensors, capacitors, fan motors) typically land between $150 and $600 all-up; major components more - which is when we give you the honest repair-vs-replace comparison. Warranty repairs on covered faults: $0.
Can you repair my brand?
Yes - we repair all major brands regardless of who installed the unit, and we're authorised warranty agents for several.
Is it worth repairing a 10-year-old heat pump?
Often, yes - if the fault is minor. Past 12 years, or facing a compressor failure, replacement is usually the better spend. We'll give you both numbers.
Do you do urgent repairs?
No-heat and water-leak calls are prioritised, with same-week and often next-day slots through winter in both cities. Call rather than book online if you're cold now.
Cold house? Let's fix that.
Tell us the brand and the symptoms - we'll bring the likely parts.
