If you own and live in a home built before 2008 and hold a Community Services Card or SuperGold Combo Card (or live in an eligible area), the Government's Warmer Kiwi Homes programme can cover 90% of the cost of an approved heat pump, up to $3,450.
Most eligible homeowners end up paying just $400–$700 for a quality unit, fully installed. And since wood and pellet burner grants ended in January 2026, a heat pump is now the only heating the programme funds.
